Thomas P. Hynes Elected to ICMI Board of Directors

Thomas P. Hynes has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI). Mr. Hynes is the Executive Director of the Canada Mining Innovation Council, which is based in Ottawa, Canada. He has over 37 years of experience in the mining industry in Canada, as a government regulator, in industry operations, and in research.

From 1993 to early 2011, Mr. Hynes was employed with Natural Resources Canada’s Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories, the largest mining research laboratory in Canada, where he held a series of progressively responsible management positions, including Director General. He was previously the Vice President of Environmental Stewardship for the International Council for Metals and the Environment (the forerunner to International Council on Metals and Mining), and participated in the Secretariat for the expert group that drafted the Cyanide Code.

Thomas Hynes holds a Master of Science degree in environmental biology from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland.

ICMI has been established to administer the Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process.
