The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) announced today that the following five cyanide transporters and supply chains have been certified in compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code (Cyanide Code): Australian Gold Reagents Pty Ltd’s (AGR) Asia and Ocean Freight Supply Chains; Orica Australia Pty Ltd’s (Orica) Asia Supply Chain; the supply chain of Transportes Suri S.A. de C.V.’s (Suri); and the transport operation of Sitrans Servicios Integrados de Transportes Ltda (Sitrans).
AGR is a signatory to the Cyanide Code as both a cyanide producer and separately as a consignor/transporter. As a consignor/transporter, AGR organizes and manages supply chains comprised of companies it has contracted to transport cyanide. ICMI has received and accepted a Detailed Audit Findings Report prepared by an independent professional third-party auditor who evaluated AGR’s Asia Supply Chain against ICMI’s Verification Protocol and found it in full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices. AGR’s Ocean Freight Supply Chain was initially certified in compliance with the Cyanide Code in February 2011. As required under the Cyanide Code, this supply chain was again audited against ICMI’s Verification Protocol within three years of its previous certification by an independent professional third-party auditor. ICMI has received and accepted the auditor’s Detailed Audit Findings Report which found that AGR’s Ocean Freight Supply Chain maintained full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices throughout the previous three years. The Summary Audit Reports and Auditor Credentials Forms for these supply chains are available on AGR’s Transporter Signatory Company Page on the ICMI web site: http://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company/australian-gold-reagents-ltd. The operations must be re-audited every three years hereafter to evaluate their continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
Orica also is both a signatory cyanide producer and a signatory consignor/transporter under the Cyanide Code. Orica’s Asia Supply Chain was initially certified in compliance with the Cyanide Code in February 2011. As required under the Cyanide Code, this supply chain was again audited against ICMI’s Verification Protocol within three years of its previous certification by an independent professional third-party auditor. ICMI has received and accepted the auditor’s Detailed Audit Findings Report which found that Orica’s Asia Supply Chain maintained full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices throughout the previous three years. The Summary Audit Report and Auditor Credentials Form is available on Orica’s Transporter Signatory Company Page on the ICMI web site: http://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company/orica-australia-ltd. The operation must be re-audited every three years hereafter to evaluate its continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
Sitrans is a transportation company operating in Chile. ICMI has received and accepted a Detailed Audit Findings Report prepared by an independent professional third-party auditor who evaluated Sitrans against the ICMI’s Pre-operational Verification Protocol and found it in compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices. The Summary Audit Report and Auditor Credentials Form are available on Sitrans’ Signatory Company Page on the ICMI web site: http://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company/sitrans-servicios-integrados-de-transportes. Sitrans has been conditionally certified and must be audited within six months of its first transport of cyanide to demonstrate that it is operating in compliance with the Cyanide Code. The operation must be re-audited every three years hereafter to evaluate continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
Suri is a consignor/transporter with a supply chain in Mexico. ICMI has received and accepted a Detailed Audit Findings Report prepared by an independent professional third-party auditor who evaluated Suri’s supply chain against ICMI’s Verification Protocol and found it in full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices. The Summary Audit Report and Auditor Credentials Form are available on Suri’s Signatory Company Page on the ICMI web site: http://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company-categories/transportes-suri-sa-de-cv-mexico. The operation must be re-audited every three years hereafter to evaluate its continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
The Cyanide Code is a voluntary industry program for companies involved in the production of gold using cyanide and companies producing and transporting this cyanide. It was developed under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme by a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee. The Cyanide Code is intended to complement an operation’s existing obligation to comply with the applicable laws and regulations of the political jurisdictions in which the operation is located.
ICMI has been established to administer the Cyanide Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process. A detailed list of the operations covered by signatory companies’ applications, along with the full text of the Cyanide Code and its implementing and administrative documents, are available at www.cyanidecode.org.
