ICMI Announces Update to the Roster of Cyanide Code Signatories

The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) has removed ten companies from its list of signatories to the International Cyanide Management Code (Cyanide Code).  Eight transport companies and one cyanide manufacturing company have voluntarily withdrawn from the Cyanide Code program, and one mining company has been removed due to nonpayment of the required 2025 annual fees.

The following nine companies have voluntarily withdrawn from the Cyanide Code program: Arabian Petrochemical Co. (PETROKEMYA) (Saudi Arabia), which was a signatory to the Cyanide Code as both a manufacturing company and separately as a transporter; Bakou Logistics (Burkina Faso); Chemlogix, LLC. (United States); Excellence Freights de Mexico (Mexico); Freight Forwarders Tanzania Ltd. (Tanzania); Sebang Co., Ltd. (Republic of Korea); Senko Co., Ltd. Okayama Branch (Japan); and Transportadora Moscato Transporte Rodoviário Ltda. (Brazil).

Six of the companies’ operations achieved certification under the Cyanide Code program: Bakou Logistics was certified once in November 2021, Excellence Freights de Mexico three times with its last certification in August 2021, Freight Forwarders Tanzania Ltd. five times with its last certification in December 2021, Sebang Co., Ltd. two times with its last certification in March 2019, Senko Co., Ltd. Okayama Branch was certified once in October 2022, and Transportadora Moscato Transporte Rodoviário Ltda. three times with its last certification in July 2022. Arabian Petrochemical Co. (PETROKEMYA) and Chemlogix, LLC became signatories in July 2019 and October 2023, respectively, but never achieved certification.

Prodigy Gold, Inc. (Canada) has been terminated from participation in the Cyanide Code program for nonpayment of its signatory fee. The company became a signatory in May 2023, but never achieved certification.

The above noted changes to the signatory list are effective this date.

The Cyanide Code is a risk-based assurance program focused on the safe and environmentally responsible management of cyanide by companies producing gold and/or silver and by companies manufacturing, warehousing, and transporting cyanide. It was developed under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme by a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee and is amongst the most established certification programs in the mining sector.

ICMI has been established to administer the Cyanide Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process for operations using, producing, and transporting cyanide. A detailed list of the operations covered by signatory companies’ applications, along with the full text of the Cyanide Code and its implementation and administrative documents, are available at www.cyanidecode.org.
