The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) announced today that Orion Productos Industriales S.A. de C.V.’s (Orion) Supply Chain in Mexico and CUSA S.A.C.’s Supply Chain based in Peru have been recertified in full compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code (Cyanide Code).
Orion’s Mexico Supply Chain was first certified in July 2014, and CUSA’s Supply Chain in Peru was first certified in July 2016. ICMI has received and accepted Detailed Audit Findings Reports prepared by independent professional third-party auditors who evaluated the Supply Chains against ICMI’s Transportation Verification Protocol and found the supply chains in full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Principles and Transport Practices. The Summary Audit Reports and Auditor Credentials Forms are available on Orion’s Signatory Company Page on the Cyanide Code web site: https://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company-categories/orion-productos-industriales-sa-de-cv-mexico, and on CUSA’s Signatory Company Page: https://www.cyanidecode.org/signatory-company-categories/cusa-sac-peru-0. The Supply Chains must be audited every three years to evaluate continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
The Cyanide Code is a voluntary industry program for companies involved in the production of gold and/or silver using cyanide and companies producing and transporting this cyanide. It was developed under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme by a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee. The Cyanide Code is intended to complement an operation’s existing obligation to comply with the applicable laws and regulations of the political jurisdictions in which the operation is located.
ICMI has been established to administer the Cyanide Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process. A detailed list of the operations covered by signatory companies’ applications, along with the full text of the Cyanide Code and its implementing and administrative documents, are available at www.cyanidecode.org.
