The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) announced today that the cyanide transporter Bollore Transport & Logistics Ghana (Bollore Ghana) has been recertified in full compliance under the International Cyanide Management Code (Cyanide Code). This is Bollore Ghana’s fourth certification in full compliance under the Cyanide Code.
Bollore Ghana was initially certified in full compliance under the Cyanide Code in April 2013 and was recertified in October 2016 and in January 2020. The operation was again audited against ICMI’s Transportation Verification Protocol within three years of its previous certification by an independent professional third-party auditor. ICMI has received and accepted a Detailed Audit Findings Report which found that Bollore Ghana had maintained full compliance with the Cyanide Code’s Transport Principles and Standards of Practice throughout the previous three years. The Summary Audit Report and Auditor Credentials Form are available on Bollore Logistics’ Signatory Page on the Cyanide Code website. The operation must be re-audited every three years to evaluate continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
The Cyanide Code is a voluntary industry program focused on the safe and environmentally responsible management of cyanide by companies producing gold and/or silver and by companies manufacturing, warehousing, and transporting cyanide.
The Cyanide Code was developed under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme by a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee and is amongst the most established certification programs in the mining sector. The Cyanide Code is intended to complement an operation’s existing obligation to comply with the applicable laws and regulations of the political jurisdiction in which the operation is located.
ICMI has been established to administer the Cyanide Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process for operations using, producing, and transporting cyanide.
